Median Closure at State Highway 21 and North Sims Avenue

Beginning Monday, March 1, 2021, the Texas Department of Transportation’s (TxDOT) contractor will close the median opening at the intersection of SH 21 (San Jacinto Lane) and N Sims Avenue.  This closure is necessary to extend the existing raised medians for the new traffic signal configuration being installed at this location.  The median will remain closed for approximately three weeks.  During this time, there will also be daily inside lane closures on SH 21 to facilitate this construction.

Additionally, on Tuesday night, March 2, 2021, starting at 7 PM, various directions of travel on SH 21 will be temporarily stopped to install the new signal mast arms onto the poles that are already in place.

This project aims to improve safety through the intersection, as a part of the highway safety improvement program, with the installation of a traffic signal. This design facilitates safer access to side streets and driveways turning from SH 21.  This will eliminate left turns from North Sims Avenue.

This work is part of a $270k project contracted to Bayer Construction Electrical Contractors, Inc. TxDOT and their contractors appreciate everyone’s patience during this construction.
