The College Station City Council unanimously approved a $6 million construction contract Thursday for pedestrian improvements to University Drive.

The second phase of improvements to the notoriously busy and hazardous roadway will focus on the stretch between College Main, near the Dixie Chicken, to South College Avenue and Bizzell Street. The contract awarded to Larry Young Paving is focused on improving pedestrian safety and mobility by widening sidewalks, constructing median islands, replacing traffic signals and more.
