In the News: TxDOT Hosting Hearing on Rail

The Texas Department of Transportation will host a public hearing this week on a proposed grade separation at the FM 50 and Union Pacific railroad crossing in Mumford.

An open house will be held Thursday from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Mumford ISD Complex.  TxDOT staff will display the proposed project layouts and be available to discuss the project.

The proposed improvement would separate FM 50 over the railroad crossing and return back to grade near the front of Mumford High School.

The existing at-grade intersection requires FM 50 traffic to stop for railway traffic.

According to TxDOT, the proposed road would have two 12-foot travel lanes with 8- to 10-foot shoulders and a right-turn lane to the high school.  The FM 50 bridge over the railroad would be approximately 1,135 feet long.

TxDOT says 56 acres of new right of way needed for the alternative would not displace any structures.

Displays showing the design and other information regarding the project are available for inspection at the TxDOT Bryan District Office.
