FM 2818 Public Hearing & Open House Widening

BRAZOS COUNTY – The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT), as the lead agency, is conducting a public hearing to discuss proposed improvements of FM 2818 (Harvey Mitchell Parkway) from 0.5 miles north of FM 60 (Raymond Stotzer Parkway) to FM 2154 (Wellborn Road) on Tuesday, April 2, 2019, at the VFW Post #4692 located at 794 North Harvey Mitchell Parkway, Bryan, Texas 77807. The meeting will begin with an open house showing project displays at 4:30 p.m., followed by a presentation and formal comment period at 6:00 p.m.

The existing FM 2818 roadway consists of a four-lane undivided roadway with a 14-foot continuous two-way left turn lane. There are two travel lanes in each direction, bounded by shoulders that vary from 6 to 10 feet. The existing and proposed right-of-way varies from 300 to 575 feet in width.

The proposed 3.2 mile project would realign and widen FM 2818 from four to six lanes, install shared-use paths, and improve intersections.  There would be three travel lanes in each direction, separated with either a center concrete traffic barrier or grass median, and bounded by 5.5-foot shoulders.  A grade separated cross street (flyover bridge without connecting ramps) is proposed at Jones-Butler Road.

The proposed project would require 0.1 acres of additional right-of-way.  Although additional right-of-way is required, no residential or non-residential structures would be displaced. Information concerning services and benefits available to affected property owners and information about the tentative schedule for right-of-way acquisition may be obtained at the hearing and from the district office at the address listed below.

A portion of the proposed project is situated within the floodplain of White Creek. Waters of the US including wetlands would be impacted by the project. Any environmental documentation or studies, maps showing the project location and design, tentative construction schedules, and other information regarding the project are on file and available for inspection Monday through Friday between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. at the TxDOT Bryan District Office at 2591 North Earl Rudder Freeway, Bryan Texas, by phone at (979) 778-2165. This information also will be available for inspection at the hearing. Verbal and written comments from the public regarding the project are requested and may be presented at the hearing, or submitted in person or by mail to the TxDOT Bryan District Office. Comments must be received on or before April 17, 2019, to be part of the official hearing record.

The hearing will be conducted in English. Persons interested in attending the hearing who have special communication or accommodation needs, are encouraged to call (979) 778-2165. Requests should be made at least two days prior to the hearing. Every reasonable effort will be made to accommodate these needs.
